No-exam life insurance

Which applicants qualify for accelerated decisions, what the process involves, and what happens if you don't.

A growing number of carriers provide accelerated underwriting: for applicants meeting age and coverage limits, decisions rely on the application form, prescription records, driving history and other available data rather than requiring a paramedical exam. Some approvals arrive within hours. Each quote here notes whether the product requires an exam, might require one, or skips it entirely.

What it changes

Accelerated underwriting is not the same as no underwriting. Your answers get verified, and a policy based on false statements can be challenged for up to two years. If the carrier's own records bring up questions, they may request an exam or lab results, and you can choose whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Generally, applicants under about 60, requesting an amount within the carrier's accelerated limit, with no serious health conditions and no tobacco use for the past year or longer qualify. If you have had a recent medical checkup with labs, some carriers will use those results instead of ordering a new exam.

If an exam becomes necessary, a paramedical professional typically spends 20 to 30 minutes at your residence or workplace in the Vacaville area; this service is provided free to you. For applicants in good health, the exam results can actually lead to a better rate tier, so the requirement is not necessarily disadvantageous.
